Finally back in sydney!!! it was a long drive on saturday, but a weekend of eating, sleeping and watching football (not cricket) was just what i needed....
My next job (started today) is at Mt.Druitt rehab- it is so much cruisier than i imagined. I mean, i was expecting a change of pace from Coffs Harbour, but today surprised me. I did about 1/50th of what i would do in a standard day at coffs.....
so i'm looking for a good book to read....
anyway, i've got to find the photos i took at coffs and put them online. one of the best things about working at coffs was that the location- the midnorth coast region has lots of things to see and places to explore. we were a bit lazy as a group and didnt really do everything on offer. but still, there is a lot of natural beauty in that region. i'll write more about some of those places once i locate the photos.
whilst i've been away, i've neglected the blog and i plan to rectify that (sort of). but i'm pretty out of touch with the world right now after being cocooned in a remote corner of the world for 10 weeks. the obvious starting point is the world cup- considering all the stuff i wrote about the soccer world cup, u'd think that i would at least have a single entry about the cricket.....i just havent gotten into the cricket this time like i normally would, and i cant blame it all on coffs. something's missing this time around. when a sri lankan team that got roasted 6-1 by india a year ago and new zealand, who had trouble dealing with England recently, are the only teams that look like even being passably competitive with australia, it is difficult to get excited....but anyway, i'll find something to write about, after all it IS cricket...

welcome back! it's good to hear from you. the blogosphere has sorely missed your writings and i think the whole World Cup experience is lacking without your commentary. Ahem, sri lanka is a strong team, ahem. but nonetheless, there is deifnitely something missing from this cup, and i think it is the time difference, bob woolmer's death, the general lack of interest in the Cup in the Carribbean and the fact that the commercial side won over the fans. the timezone suits no one except the Carribbean and honesly, how many Americans are really going to watch it?!
anyway, look forward to your posts and reccommend you read James Morrow's _The Last Witch Finder_, if nothing but for the first chapter which will knock your socks off and provide inspiration for many a post and meme.
i'm flattered by ur comments but i think there is something more fundamental missing from the world cup
i'm not disputing that sri lanka has a strong team- perhaps the strongest sri lankan team ever....but the point there r no matches anyone is particularly looking forward to- there's no anticipation of a great clash......
the timezones ur spot on about- though the 03 world cup timings in south africa wasnt all that convenient......but the point is, we need the world cup to be held in australia
and i'll give that book a try..
you're right about there not seeming to be anything to loko forward too, and certainly having two of the subcontinental superpowers in the milieu is a real dampner on the proceedings. perhaps that is the telling factor for you. i think there are the issues of reporting in Australia, which has been appalling, worse than the football world cup. i could not get an update on matches that were near closing on two of the three morning shows, the enthusiasm and analysis has been completely absent. the time zone simply adds to it. Sth Africa was bad but this is at least another five hours to add on the difference. It suits no one in the subcontinent (the biggest audience) or here. we need it held here, because the zone really does suit everyone!
Oh, and I just don't feel Lanka got enough credit for their win against England, I mean kudos to Bopara and friends for a tighly fought match, but really, you would think we hadn't even been in the game.
the reason sri lanka didnt get credit is because the opposition was england...a close win over england doesnt account for much, i'm afraid...
but they got heaps of credit for the south africa match, at least malinga did...
anyway, my favourite wicket of the tournament was murali's dismissal of pietersen...everything about the way that unfolded was so typically murali.....what a champ!!
